Health & Safety Co-ordinator

Midlands

Food Manufacturing

My Client is looking to add to their existing Heath & Safety / Environmental team a H&S Co-ordinator. Reporting into the Head of H&S, you will be working proactively in the factory driving H&S performance across the manufacturing area, ensuring continuous improvement of policies and practices.

No direct reports, but close working relationships with functions such as Production, Quality & Engineering teams.

• Co-ordinate Safety Action Team activity

• Support the review and roll out of the Risk Assessment programme and follow up actions that arise from this

• Support the development of the safety management system to ensure that robust documentation is available for audit purposes

• Support and coach the Manufacturing Teams to develop their health and safety knowledge, awareness of their responsibilities and adopt best practice at all times

• Support the HR department with health and safety training initiatives and identify training needs as required eg manual handling, induction, COSHH, lock off, safe systems of work, toolbox talks

• Manage sections of the safety management system eg PPE, guarding, lock off

• Carrying out regular routine inspections of the site (including inspections of machinery, equipment in use and work systems in operation)

• Administering Accident Investigation database. Auditing accident investigations and ensuring management compliance. Reporting RIDDORs to HSE and Head Office

• Attending Group quarterly Health & Safety meetings and Environmental meetings and actioning minutes agreed on site

The Person

• Qualified to IOSH Managing Safety level or equivalent ideal

• Experience of operating in Food Manufacturing environment essential and an awareness of food safety legislation would be an advantage

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels

• Computer literate

• hands on approach, factory based

• Organised and systematic

• Flexible/ drives and embraces change/ challenges the status quo

My client is looking for someone who is a strong character, self reliant and a self motivated individual. They are prepared to look at candidates from a Food manufacturing background who have not necessarialy got H&S experience but have a desire to move into this career path and take on board the training the company are prepared to offer eg: IOSH & NEBOSH Certification
